Experienced Overhead Fiber & Coax Technician
Location: Gadsden, AL (Servicing Etowah, St. Clair, Shelby & Madison Counties)
Hourly Rate: $25-$43/hr (Based on experience and hands-on skills test)
United Trades of America is actively hiring a qualified Overhead Fiber & Coax Technician to join our high-performing team. This is an excellent opportunity for skilled aerial linemen with strong fiber and coaxial experience who are seeking work with a company that recognizes and rewards top-tier craftsmanship.
This role is ideal for candidates who are detail-oriented, thrive in an outdoor work environment, and have extensive hands-on experience installing aerial telecommunications infrastructure. Applicants should have a firm understanding of proper cabling techniques, safety standards, and the ability to operate at heights using bucket trucks. We are looking for professionals who are ready to hit the ground running and contribute immediately to field operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform aerial installation of coaxial and fiber optic cabling between utility poles
Securely strap and lash cables to guy wires and utility poles using appropriate hardware
Safely transfer cables from old poles to newly installed poles
Read and interpret engineered overhead fiber installation prints and schematics
Use bucket trucks and lift equipment to perform work up to 30 feet above ground
Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot aerial cable runs as required
Ensure proper hardware, tension, and spacing for optimal cable support
Maintain a high standard of safety and workmanship at all times
Minimum 6 years of verified experience in aerial fiber/coax installation (10+ years preferred)
Ability to pass a hands-on practical test that evaluates general aerial knowledge and equipment use
Must possess and bring a basic aerial tool kit suitable for fiber/coaxial work
Clean driving record
Capable of operating a bucket truck safely and efficiently
Must pass a drug screening and background check prior to employment
Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
10+ years of relevant industry experience with verifiable references
CDL holder or willingness to obtain one
Familiarity with Alabama utility standards and regional telecommunications infrastructure
Competitive hourly pay based on experience: $25-$43/hour
