Responsibilities Conduct and coordinate high‑level investigations involving individuals, groups, or large organizations operating locally, nationally, or internationally. Use electronic surveillance, interviews, polygraph examinations, and physical surveillance to obtain evidence. Make arrests, confront multiple suspects, and secure scenes in potentially hazardous environments. Collect, document, and present evidence, including statements, affidavits, and documentary materials. Prepare sworn testimony for criminal and federal grand jury cases. Qualifications One (1) year of specialized experience at GS‑7 level (e.g., investigations in narcotics, money laundering, human trafficking, fraud, counter‑intelligence, counterterrorism, or general criminal investigations). Or a master’s degree (or equivalent graduate degree) in a relevant field, or two academic years of graduate education beyond the first full year. Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving, teamwork, interpersonal skills, and flexibility. Valid driver’s license, ability to pass a background investigation (Top Secret), polygraph, drug test, medical exam, and physical fitness test. U.S. citizen; selective service registration for eligible males; ability to travel for polygraph testing and mandatory training. Capacity to work alone in remote or hazardous settings and to carry a firearm. Conditions of Employment Full‑time permanent appointment with one‑year probationary period. Required mobility agreement and 50‑mile residency requirement. Mandatory Basic Training: Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Criminal Investigator Training Program and HSI Special Agent Training Program. Continuous drug testing and periodic physical fitness testing. Critical‑Sensitive/High‑Risk position with trust‑determination requirements.
