Summary/General Description Of Job:
Incumbent uses various tools and equipment to install, inspect, repair, maintain, adjust and troubleshoot cranes and other Vertical Transportation Equipment, such as lifts and elevators as it pertains to the electrical components. Essential Duties & Job Functions: • Performs work on cranes (Weight Handling Equipment/WHE) with a capacity range of up to 120 tons. • Performs the work of a journey-level Crane maintenance electrician with general supervision by a more experienced Crane Electrician. • Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment below 600 volts, such as electric controls, electric motors, and AC and DC circuits and switches. • Works on Vertical Transportation Equipment (VTE) such as elevators and lifts. • Determines general condition of equipment, nature of possible malfunctions, and extent of needed repairs. • Works from blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and other specifications, determining type and amount of material required. • Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs AC and DC electrical distribution systems, motors, switches, regulators, relays, and other mechanisms, using gauges, electric test equipment, and the general tools of the trade. • Performs other related duties as assigned. May perform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another job classification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustments applicable. Accountable For: • The proper use of tools and equipment commonly used in the Elevator Electrician field. • Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives. • Timely and cost effective performance of duties. • Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work. • Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations. • Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices. • Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures. Having the ability to work well under pressure. Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations): Mandatory • Journey-level maintenance electricians with a minimum of four (4) years' experience on cranes or equivalent controls. • Four (4) years' experience with either fabrication or maintenance of crane electrical and electronic systems or a combination of both. • Ability to demonstrate a thorough knowledge to perform the tasks listed for Crane Maintenance Electrician in the Personnel Qualification Program of the U.S. Navy (Table 2.6-6) using tools and instruments listed and others common to the trade. • Ability to read blueprints, bend conduit, trouble-shoot, repair motors and controls, and install and repair AC and DC equipment. • Ability to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of switches, transformers, and transformer hook-ups. • Must have and maintain hand tools of the trade to perform the normal work of the classifications. • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights • Must obtain and maintain required explosives certifications when assigned to ordnance operations. • Ability to work odd shifts and overtime. • Ability to obtain certification under the SWFPAC PQP program. • Ability to meet and maintain company physical and security requirements, including respirator qualification, and clearance eligibility when required. • Must possess good communication skills for a service team environment. • Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record • Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract. • U.S. Citizenship.
